Federal officials just took some bold steps to secure America’s energy future.
In early June, regulators proposed some new guidelines that would make it easier for American energy producers to sell surplus natural gas in foreign markets. A few weeks later, the House of Representatives passed a bipartisan measure that would speed up how quickly regulators approve such exports.
These moves are encouraging. However, federal officials shouldn’t be satisfied just yet. These reforms now need to be written into law. Efficient, safe natural gas export channels would generate immense economic benefits for America at a time when it makes sense to do so.
